New Moon Sells 4 Million DVDs, Topping Twilight’s Record-Breaking Sales

twilight-new-moon

Maybe the DVD business isn’t dead — for vampire movies.

The Twilight Saga: New Moon sold more than 4 million DVDs when it hit shelves this weekend.  The initial sales indicate that the second installment of the book-to-film saga could outsell the first, according to a release from the movie’s studio.

Twilight, which sold 3.8 million DVDs its opening weekend, went on to become the No. 1 selling DVD in 2009. 9.2 million copies of the film were sold.

That’s good news for Summit Entertainment, the independent studio distributing the movie. We got the news from their release, via Deadline.com.

Since peaking at $24.1 billion in 2006, overall DVD sales have been steadily declining.  The popularity and ease of online streaming and rental services like Netflix and Redbox have demolished industry-wide sales.

“New Moon” has grossed more than $705 million worldwide since it opened in theaters in November last year.  The third film, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse hits theaters June 30.

Maureen SullivanFrom Econsultancy: Coming to an established brand with new ideas is one thing. But convincing existing employees to change old habits is an entirely different issue. And that’s increasingly a problem at AOL, where Tim Armstrong came from Google 11 months ago.

At the offices of brand strategists Wolff Olins in New York on Tuesday morning, AOL’s CEO laid out the cultural shift that he is still trying to overcome:

“AOL was so used to losing that they didn’t know what winning was.”

With a big roster of new employees, a few new properties and a much stronger focus on content, Armstrong has made big changes at AOL in the last year. But not all of his advice has stuck.

Steve Jobs Says “Not To Worry,” Apple Is Working On New MacBook Pros (AAPL)

steve jobs apple AP

Steve Jobs has been sending out a bunch of short emails to random people around the world lately.

Most of them are boring, but one reply hints at a refreshed Macbook Pro and Mac Pro lineup.

A reader told Arnold Kim at MacRumors that he wrote Steve Jobs to say he wanted Apple to put out new Macbook Pros and he was worried Apple was too focused on the iPad.

The reader told Steve, “I recognise the need for secrecy etc but I am really losing heart in the lack of vision for the MBP and Mac Pros. Not expecting a response but as someone who has personally switched dozens of people onto the mac way this is a sad email for me to compose.”

Steve wrote back to say, “Not to worry.” So, there you go. Sort of. New Macbook Pros and Mac Pros coming.
