Furniture Wardrobes – Creating Space in Your Bedroom

July 9th, 2009by admin

I am fairly fortunate in the fact that although my bedroom is quite small, whoever designed and built the house that I currently live in had the good sense to incorporate large built-in wardrobes.

There are of course pros and cons to all furniture wardrobes which will vary depending on the size of your home and the size of your bedroom. Ultimately it is these things that will dictate which wardrobe you end up buying.

I am sure the ladies will agree that bigger is better. Please stay on topic here! Bedroom furniture wardrobes! Even as a male member of the species I can see the benefits of having a much larger wardrobe. For starters, it makes a great spot for the weekly hide and seek championships or somewhere to store the barbeque! Oh and great for clothes too!

You don’t have to have large built-in or walk-in wardrobes to have a great piece of furniture though. If you utilise or manipulate your room space a little bit, there are many different kinds of bedroom wardrobes that may suit what you are looking for.

Having said that its very important when buying new wardrobes that you have your room measurements spot on. There can be very little worse than lumping your brand new state of the art wardrobe up those ridiculously tight stairs and squeezing it through the door, only to discover your measurements were out by the smallest of fractions and your brand new piece of furniture wont fit in your room, unless you decide to sleep in it!

If money is no object then there is probably no limit to how aesthetically pleasing your new wardrobe can be but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t a huge selection of best selling wardrobes to fit within all price ranges.

There are literally hundreds upon hundred of places you can buy your next wardrobe and if you prefer to shy away from the high street and its prices then you may prefer to buy wardrobes online where the choice and range will be almost limitless.

Top hypo-allergenic mattress picks.

June 25th, 2009by admin

The most important thing to get right before you purchase a bed it the matteress.

Take a look at our guire to Hypo-allergenic matsresses.

Top hypo-allergenic mattress picks

We spend so much of our lives sleeping. And the mattress we sleep on represents the primary source for our overall well being. Unfortunately, in time, our own mattress can become a danger to our health: dead skin cells and our natural perspiration provide the conditions that create the ideal habitat for bacteria, mold, mildew, fungus, and dust mites which can lead to allergies and hypersensitivity related illnesses. We want to help you avoid these common bed bugs. To combat these potential sleep pests, we’ve taken a look at some of the best buys in hypo-allergenic mattresses. The first of these hypo-allergenic mattresses is one that I have tried and tested myself.

Tempur-Pedic®

The Tempur-Pedic® is a naturally treated, terry-cloth cover that helps to liminate spores, fungi and, most importantly, mites and their excrement. Each cover also includes an air-permeable, liquid-barrier lining and is zippered for easy removal and washing.

Royal-Pedic®

A Royal-Pedic® bed set will last twice as long as any normal bed set and uses natural, toxic free materials which provide a good night’s sleep to those with allergies and chemical sensitivities. And for the very sensitive Royal-Pedic has a line of organic mattresses.

Simmons® BackCare for Kids

Indoor allergens can flourish inside mattresses & pillows, causing considerable sniffles and sneezes for those with allergies. Simmons® self-replenishing fibers help reduce indoor allergens that can trigger allergic reactions and asthma, helping your child rest easier and breathe more freely.

Armchair lounging: The chaise longue

June 25th, 2009by admin
Chaise Longue

Chaise Longue

It is often called “chaise longue” or lounge chair, a long seat for reclining. Developed in the 18th century, it closely resembled the daybed of the late 17th century and the bergère armchair, but with an extension of the seat beyond the front of the arms. Some chaise lounges, said to be brisée, or broken, were divided into two or three parts, thus forming a chair and stool, sometimes with a separate footrest. The versatility of this piece of furniture is so appealing and fits seamlessly into any room in a house.

The name comes from the French Chaise longue which means long-chair. Art movements in France were reflected in the furnishings as well, and the chaise longue was a popular piece in the Rococo period. The rococo style loved asymmetry and contrast in elements that were unbalances. Because of the similarity of the French word longue and the English word lounge, the chaise is most commonly referred to in English as the chaise lounge, though French speakers tend to go with longue.

Architects of the early 20th century also adored the chaise style and used it in many settings to reflect the straight lines and long floor plans popular in the time. It was an extremely popular show case in many architectural displays. Originally, chaise lounges were not easy, nor economical to construct. The metal hand was actually bent by hand which made the chaise lounge unavailable to the general public. It also had to be shipped in full assembly which provided transportation problems. Today, modern machinery and intuitive engineering have allowed the chaise lounge to be constructed and distributed much more economically.
