The Mountain Wordsmith

Let me introduce myself - my name is Sue and I am ‘The Mountain Wordsmith’, a freelance proofreader and copy editor.

My role is to ensure that your written work is free from the spelling mistakes, grammatical errors, inconsistencies and ambiguities that can spoil the enjoyment of the reader, lead to misunderstandings, or worst of all, put off any prospective publisher of your work or purchaser of your product.

I pride myself on reasonable rates, rapid response and a friendly, professional service.

If it’s in writing, I can proofread it - books, articles, web pages, leaflets, letters, plays, advertisements, dissertations . . . the list goes on.

I can work on-screen or on hard copy, the choice is yours.

My three most recent projects were:

- A dissertation for a Chinese student, who had written it in Chinese and then had it auto-translated, with predictably unintelligible results.

- A book of short stories by a local Writers’ Group.

- An autobiography by a local author.

If anyone would like to check my credentials, I am a member of the People Per Hour website for freelancers (PeoplePerHour.com), and my profile is available through that site, along with my latest feedback (5 stars, very positive).

How does a typical job go? Well, in my experience, each job is totally unique and individual, but in general terms, this is the process:

I will give you a provisional quote for the piece of work, based mainly on wordcount.

Once I have received the item to be proofread/edited, I will quickly read through it to give me some idea of the amount of work that will be involved. At this stage, I will be able to firm up the provisional quote.
